This 1950’s weatherboard bungalow has seen multiple add-ons over the years and the clients didn’t want to extend it, rather to make it work for how they wanted to live now. The new kitchen was rearranged to revolve around a large marble island bench. This both gave an anchor point to the room, but was also tapered to create clear paths of access for the occupant with reduced mobility.
The original timber floors were exposed and matching recycled native Tawa floorboards sourced where required. Tawa was selected for the kitchen cabinets, a pale grain that offsets the deep green and brown marble. OPL designed the lighting plan and helped transform the interior decor in a way that incorporated existing furniture and features.
