Yu Residence

Nestled into a leafy oak-lined street in Canberra, Yu Residence was designed for a generational occupation. The groundfloor is a comfortable one bedroom home for the grandparents. Upstairs accomodates bedrooms and a second living room for the son and his child.

A modest budget and desire for low maintenance led to a house designed as a repetitive extrusion, homogeneously clad in custom orb. The cross-section diagram of the house relates to site setback controls and passive strategies. Roof angles are attuned to solar and rainwater collection. The raking ceiling of the first floor, combined with high-level windows, allows for a dynamic day-lit space that is passively cross-ventilated.
